It’s the Best
Donna Rodney and Darwin Davis know a good music festival when they see one. The East Orange, NJ couple do the summer festival scene every year. They’re regulars at music festivals like “BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!” in Prospect Park, “JazzMobile Summerfest” and “Central Park SummerStage” in New York City.
A professor at Hunter College in New York, Davis decided to add Musikfest to his musical stops last year. This year he brought Rodney. Both agree it’s the single best festival they have ever attended.
“There’s good food, good company and great music,” said Davis. “We heard a Latin salsa band, the Downtown Shimmies, Luisto and the Tequila Rose Band so far,” said Rodney, “All of them were great.”
They also enjoyed browsing for unique goods from the many artisans at Musikfest and in the city of Bethlehem. Davis loves to cook, so he stocked up at Seasons Olive Oil and Vinegar Taproom on Main Street, and Rodney was enjoying the crafters. “I’m still looking,” she said. “There are so many beautiful things, I’m having trouble narrowing it down.”
As for the array of food, Davis said, “Some folks say the Aw Shucks Roasted Corn is the best; others say it’s the funnel cakes, and some say it’s the beer. I love all those things, but I think it’s a combination of these treats that makes Musikfest so special. It’s fun, and it’s free. There just is no place better to pudge around.”
